Tips for Safe Transfer of the Patient
- Sitting on the wheelchair slide board: At first, a caregiver would assist you in sitting on the slide board. For additional support, you can wear a transfer gait belt that lets caregivers support you more easily.
- Moving carefully and slowly on the board: After sitting securely on the board, move slowly and safely and be careful about the movements while you transfer from the board.
- Protecting the skin and sitting in the correct position: Make sure your skin does not get pinched while moving on the sliding board. For that, you can use a sliding sheet that eases movement. Also, move across the board with proper positioning of your legs and feet, and never put your hands or fingers under the board.
- Transfer between surfaces of the same height: Moving between two surfaces that have the same height or a bit lower height helps in easy transfer and reduces the work for you and the caregiver.
