Portagen® is a Nutritional Powder for children and adults with defects in the intraluminal hydrolysis of fat (decreased pancreatic lipase, decreased bile salts); defective mucosal fat absorption (decreased mucosal permeability, decreased absorptive surface); and/or defective lymphatic transport of fat (i.e. intestinal lymphatic obstruction). It provides milk protein-based powder with medium-chain triglycerides for children and adults. Portagen® powder is not nutritionally complete. If used long term, supplementation of essential fatty acids and ultra-trace minerals should be considered. This powder can be used as a portion of the diet or as a beverage to be consumed with each meal. It contains readily digestible protein, fat, and carbohydrate and is iron-fortified. It is available as an unflavored powder that may be flavored or sweetened to taste.
